Undo
commands and restore objects instantly with UndoIT 2.0 from
Empower Software
ATLANTA, Georgia - April 21, 2003 - Empower Software, developer
of the first iSeries undo command utility, today announces
UndoIT 2.0 which extends the original undo capabilities with
more supported commands, real-time Snapshot Archiving and
Object History functions. Objects that are changed or deleted
inadvertantly or without an appropriate audit trail can cause
companies many hours of lost time and productivity. Now with
UndoIT 2.0, objects and object attributes that have been changed
or deleted using one of IBM's RMV*, DLT*, *CHG, CLR* and other
similarly impacting commands can now be viewed and restored
instantly without requiring any special archiving commands.
Additionally, a user may search the history of an object including
creation, rename, move, change and deletion information.
"For many years it has been difficult, if not impossible,
to discover who changed or deleted an object, and in particular,
what the original attributes were prior to the change. On
the iSeries the audit trail capabilities for changes to objects
such as files, data areas, job descriptons, etc. is either
non-existent or very difficult to implement", said Alan
Trippe, CEO of Empower Software. "Now with UndoIT 2.0's
Snapshot Archives and Object History features, a developer
or administrator can quickly see any object changes and, if
applicable, restore those changes."
UndoIT 2.0 transparently tracks the usage of frequently used
IBM QSYS commands. No program modifications are required,
and no specials commands are necessary to utilize UndoIT's
archiving capabilities and Undo features. Once configured,
the user simply types "undo" on any command line
and chooses which previously entered command to undo.
The new Snapshot Archiving feature of UndoIT 2.0 captures
an object and/or the object's attributes prior to the execution
of certain commands. This information is stored in the archives
for later research and retrieval. A user could change a value
in a data area using CHGDTAARA, or alter the attributes of
a file using CHGPFM, for instance, and the information prior
to the change will be stored in the archives.
UndoIT's Object History feature provides a powerful new way
of looking at objects on the iSeries. The new WRKOBJHST command
allows users to enter the name of an object (file, program,
data area, etc.) which may or may not currently exist on the
system, and displays the history of the object. Object history
information includes creation, deletion, change, move and
rename data.
Administrators have full control over who is authorized to
UndoIT's archiving features and for which commands they are
authorized to. Additionally, UndoIT is optimized to maximize
disk space and incorporates an automatic archive cleanup feature
which allows archives to be retained for as little as 1 hour
up to 999 days.
